James Calvert Spence College T-Level Students Complete 315-Hour Placement with Alncom
Two talented students, Evan and Liam, from James Calvert Spence College have successfully completed their 315-hour (approximately 45-day) T-Level industrial placements with Alncom. As some of the first students nationwide to complete the T-Level Digital Production, Design and Development course, their achievement marks an exciting milestone for both the college and Alncom.
Working within Alncom’s Technology Department, Evan and Liam gained hands-on experience across a range of live projects that supported the company’s digital systems and internal operations. Their work included IT support, software development, and system configuratio-giving them valuable insight into the fast-paced world of technology.
Evan particularly enjoyed working with Alncom’s CCTV systems, gaining practical experience in installation and configuration, while Liam discovered his passion for coding, contributing to the company’s clocking in and out facility. Both students impressed the team with their enthusiasm, creativity, and professionalism.
Throughout the placement, Chris Phillips, Head of the IT Department at Alncom, was heavily involved in mentoring and supporting the students. From day one, he worked closely with Evan and Liam, guiding them through real-world projects, helping them develop their technical skills, and encouraging them to take ownership of their work. His hands-on approach ensured the students gained meaningful experience and confidence in applying their classroom learning to practical industry tasks.
Chris Phillips said:
Looking ahead, both students have ambitious plans for their futures. Evan hopes to use his experience to pursue a career in the police, specialising in cyber crime, while Liam plans to study at Northumbria University and work in cyber security- two very different but equally important areas of the tech industry.
James Andriot (Headteacher), Russell Gaines (Director of Vocational), and James Moore (Head of Sixth Form) at James Calvert Spence College have all expressed how pleased they are with the collaboration between the college and Alncom. They praised the partnership for providing students with meaningful, hands-on experience that bridges the gap between education and employment.
This successful placement highlights Alncom’s ongoing commitment to supporting local education and developing future talent. The company will continue to offer T-Level placements and apprenticeships, helping more students gain the skills and experience needed to thrive in the digital economy.
