Lindisfarne Centre
5th December 2024
Helen, Lizzie and Lilly from Alncom took a few hours out of work to head to the shops and donate some food to Alnwick District Food Bank. Check out the photos below.
Alnwick District Food Bank was set up ten years ago to address household food need in Alnwick and surrounding areas. They support a wide range of clients with nourishing food.
The Food Bank is based at the Lindisfarne Centre, Lindisfarne Road. We are really fortunate to have been given subsidised space at a new community hub at the Lindisfarne Centre. The new building houses the Citizens Advice Bureau, Alnwick Town Council, and will also house other Council services. The building is open to the public with a council-run café serving well-priced drinks and snacks. So there's a lot of support on hand in one place.
The rooms are kitted out like a corner shop, so that instead of being handed a parcel, people choose for themselves, accompanied by a Food Bank volunteer - just take a trolley and choose from a list of foods including all the usual tinned goods as well as fresh vegetables, meat and dairy products (when available).
We’re very pleased and grateful to say that the shelving for the new Food Bank has been provided by a generous legacy from a supporter, a grant from Northumberland Estates has given us new fridges and freezers and we continue to receive amazing support from local businesses and our supportive community around Alnwick. The Food Bank is run entirely by volunteers.
