Full Fibre broadband, also known as Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) means fibre optic cables are connected directly to your home or business premises allowing extremely fast and reliable internet connections.

Broadband speeds are usually measured in megabits per second (Mbps). This means the higher the number of bits per second, the faster your broadband speed is.

Alncom offer ultrafast speeds which range from 100Mbps - 900Mbps, the fastest you can get! By comparison ‘Superfast’ can actually be relatively slow, offering speeds in the range of 30-100 Mbps.

The type of speed you need depends on your household. Whilst viewing web pages and checking and sending emails requires very little Mbps, streaming movies takes a lot more. For example, for one person to stream Netflix or YouTube reliably requires around 40-50 Mbps, however, the more devices, the more data required.

So, for a household of 1-2 people using up to 4 devices an Alncom 125 Mbps connection should be sufficient in order to stream music, watch videos and browse social media and web pages simultaneously.

For a household of 2-4 people using up to 8 devices we would recommend Alncom 325. This package will allow everyone in the house to stream 4k movies, make video calls and use social media simultaneously.

If you use are a professional home worker in a data heavy household and demand a connection where you can reliably and regularly download and upload videos, stream on multiple devices and make regular video calls then Alncom 525 would be the best choice.

For those who want all the above and more, then our Alncom 925Mbps connection has you covered. You will get a lightning fast ultra reliable and future proofed connection, the best you can get!

ADSL, or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. This technology uses the existing copper telephone lines to deliver internet. It's been around for a while and is widely available. However, it's slower and can be less reliable, especially if you're far from the telephone exchange.

FTTC, or Fibre to the Cabinet. This is a hybrid solution. Fibre optic cables run from the exchange to a street cabinet, and from there, copper cables carry the connection to your home. It's faster than ADSL because fibre optics can handle more data over longer distances without losing speed.

FTTP, or Fibre to the Property. This is the gold standard of broadband connections. Fibre optic cables run directly from the exchange to your home. This means you get ultrafast, reliable internet with no slowdowns, even during peak times.

Download speed is the pace at which data is transferred to you. With a faster download speed you will be able to download larger files quicker and stream movies and TV shows in HD and 4K. Faster download speeds are also beneficial if you have a busy household as it allows internet to be used on multiple devices at the same time.

Upload speed is how long it takes to send files such as photos and videos in the opposite direction. Most people don’t need upload speeds to be as fast as download speeds however there are exceptions such as if you run a business and send multiple videos and photos or if you are a keen gamer.

Switching to Alncom

We will install your connection completely free of charge - including a free router.

We have multiple ways of helping you out of an existing contract - including Switching Credit where we can contribute towards your remaining balance.

We offer a 24 month contract, with a no price rise guarantee.

During the installation our engineers will physically connect your router to our Full Fibre network. Depending on your location we will run fibre optic cables from telegraph poles directly into your house via small drilled holes. We will then connect these cables to your router using a technique called splicing. After the physical connection is made we will test your speeds in different rooms of the house using a mobile phone app connected to your WiFi. If needed we will suggest adding a WiFi booster to ensure optimal coverage. We will then tidy up after ourselves to ensure we leave no mess! Your internet will be ready to use as soon as the installation is completed.

On average you can expect your installation to last around 2 hours depending on your property.

We have a local technical support team based here in Alnwick. We are open 7 days a week 8.00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m and only a phone call away. Please get in touch on 01665 604816

Your existing connection will likely be ADSL or FTTC both of which involve outdated copper cables. In order to connect you to our network and provide you with Ultrafast speeds we need to connect Full Fibre cables directly in to your home.

Whilst all Alncom customers' homes will be connected with Ultrafast Full Fibre, it is WiFi that connects internet from your router to your devices - mobile phones, tablets, laptops etc. In order to extend the range of your WiFi we offer WiFi boosters for £5 a month which will give you better coverage within your home and also allow the possibility to use internet in your garden.

Having a weak WiFi signal can often affect your internet speeds. There are a number of solutions to ensure you can always make the most of your Full Fibre connection. We can provide Wi-Fi boosters for £5 a month and you can purchase additional boosters for large houses. For desktop computers you can also use ethernet cables which will ensure no loss in internet speeds.

What about my phone?

The existing copper phone network is being phased out and will be turned off on 31st January 2027. By this date all landline users will need to have changed to an internet based phone line called VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) to continue using their phone. Alncom won’t touch your existing line however so there is nothing to stop you using it until it is cut off.
